Is Digital Marketing Worth It? 2025

April 23, 2024

is digital marketing worth it

Digital Marketing is Growing Exponentially & Will Double by 2028

The digital marketing industry is growing exponentially. It’s an attractive career move for most people because learning the steps to succeed as a freelance digital marketer is easy.

Digital marketing allows you to work independently according to the schedule you decide. You can choose your niche and work with diverse projects.

Ok, that sounds great. What’s the downside?

Like any freelance work, there are no health or pension benefits. Depending on your direction, finding paying clients could involve an ongoing hustle, and that is tedious as hell.

The more straightforward direction is to create digital products, but the caveat is you need to learn how to drive organic (free) traffic to your offers. You can build a faceless brand if you don’t like being on camera.

Pros of Being a Freelance Digital Marketer

  • Independence: Choose when and where you work.
  • Remote Work: It’s easy to fulfil tasks working from home.
  • Flexibility: You can fit the work around your family, workouts, and routine appointments. No asking a boss for time off.
  • Variety: Choose which projects you want to work on. Create digital products that interest you. Switch direction whenever you need a change.
  • Income: Once you master digital marketing, it can become a lucrative career.

Cons of Being a Freelance Digital Marketer

  • Lack of Daily Human Interaction: Most freelancers learn to deal with the solitary aspects of working from home, but if you are a person who enjoys being with others, it can be a lonely life.
  • Constant Hustle: There’s no salary, so freelance digital marketers must plan ahead to ensure cash flow stays healthy. That’s not easy, and workflow can change in a heartbeat (firsthand experience of that!)
  • Feast or Famine: Some months, the money flows in and others you may struggle to pay the bills.
  • Competition: More people are discovering digital marketing as a career

Options for Getting Started

There are so many ways to start and grow your digital marketing business. Here are some of the ways I am doing it:

A Done-For You Business

The DFY business is my preferred option because it is the easiest for beginners

DFU business

This is one of the easiest business models I have found in digital marketing: Image source: Love Marketing

What I love about the DFU business model

  1. It’s beginner friendly
  2. It’s an affiliate model. You can earn up to 85% commissions with 2-tiers, which means passive income
  3. No tech setup
  4. No payment processors. The company takes care of every step of the sale
  5. Paid weekly
  6. It’s easier to “sell” because of these benefits

Master Resell Rights

Not everyone wants a DFU business. Read about the 3 most popular master resell rights products (I update regularly) or, if you want a low cost option that helps with your spiritual and personal development, read my article about the lovely Inner Bloom MRR.

In my experience, master resell rights can be harder to sell. There is no passive income. It’s full on work. The main benefit is the high-ticket option. I moved the DFY business it is easier for beginners to make sales.

Conclusion

I wouldn’t change my direction as a digital marketer for the world. I love the variety, and I’ve opted not to work with clients at this early stage. I’ve had three years of client work as a copywriter. That was enough for me!

My recommendation is to take the Google Digital Marketing Certificate Course. It’s a great foundational course that provides an excellent overview of life as a digital marketer. I’ve linked to all of their digital courses, which are all free.

Affiliate Network or Affiliate Program? Which is Best?

April 22, 2024

affiliate networks vs affiliate programs

Choosing the Best Affiliate Network or Program Can Make the Differemce to Success

Affiliate marketing is one of the best make-money online models. It’s free to get started and, in most cases, is quick and easy to set up. However, many budding affiliate marketers get it wrong because they’re unsure whether to promote a network or program product, and some don’t know the difference between the two.

I believe in ethical marketing, so I don’t promote anything I haven’t used myself. It’s a good rule of thumb because your audience learns to trust your recommendations.

If you only focus on making money, you can come across as a bit of a snake oil salesperson.

What is an Affiliate Network?

An affiliate network is a marketplace that promotes multiple digital products. It brings merchants together with affiliate marketers. Most merchants provide a sales page, offer a fixed commission, and may have several sub-affiliate layers.

Examples of affiliate networks include ClickBank, Commission Junction, ShareaSale, FlexOffers, and Rakuten Marketing.

Affiliate Networks: The Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Typically, it is easy to join with instant approval
  • You can access hundreds of different niches and products
  • Typically, a generous commission
  • Fully automated cookie tracking
  • Get your link and start promoting

Cons

  • Because approval is easy, many others may be promoting the same products
  • Affiliate networks are intermediaries, so you’re dealing with a third-party
  • The affiliate network takes a commission as well, so you could be making less
  • You may not have used the products or service, so don’t know about the quality or lack of
  • Popular products can saturate the market

What is an Affiliate Program?

Affiliate programs are those offered directly by the merchant. It could be a company offering a product or service, such as a web hosting or SaaS company, that provides a commission for introducing others to their platform. Most B2C software providers offer affiliate programs. You can also affiliate with fashion houses and other niches you enjoy.

Affiliate Programs: The Pros and Cons

Pros

  • There is generally less competition than an affiliate network
  • You work directly with the merchant. There are no middlemen to deal with
  • Commissions tend to be higher (for example, Systeme offers a whopping 60% commission)
  • Most affiliate programs provide a dedicated support team
  • You can seek subscription-based affiliate offers with a lifetime monthly payout
  • If you use software, the company may have an affiliate program so you can promote a product or service you love
  • It’s easier to find a niche aligned with your brand

Cons

  • It can be harder to get approved. Many companies want affiliates with a significant online presence
  • You may not be able to track analytics
  • The company may not have a sales page/funnel for affiliates
  • Some companies offer a pitiful commission (Amazon is around 4% on average, for instance)

I don’t use affiliate networks. I much prefer affiliate programs. That said, some of the products I love rejected my application because I don’t have a large following (yet), and that kind of pissed me off a bit from using their products. However, I got over it and chose to work with other companies like Systeme because it’s an easy sell with the free account offering so much value. Systeme offer 60% recurring commisions. What’s not to love? I’m a paid member and use all of their marketing tools for my business.

You can also read about the pros and cons of affiliate marketing.

I hope this article has helped you clarify the difference between affiliate networks and programs.

5 Habits To Stop Doing To Get Rich

April 18, 2024

5 habits keeping you poor

5 Habits to Stop Doing to Get Rich? Seriously, You Might Be Keeping Yourself Poor With the Subconscious Habits You Do

5 habits to stop doing to get rich?  Yep. Some of my writing clients are millionaires and I noticed they don’t do the things I do, and maybe that’s why I’ve never been rich (Yet!).

Only recently did I realise how many things I had done that had held me back from becoming wealthy. I’ve had many opportunities but struggled to get past a certain point.

These five habits are what I have changed to improve my wealth building. They work, and you will soon see a shift in your finances.

Scarcity Mindset

If you believe there is never enough or you cannot be rich, you have a scarcity mindset. The world has an abundance of opportunities waiting for you to take them. If you really want to make more money, shift your mindset into taking action to increase your fortunes.

Don’t only think about working harder as an employee because that may bring you a short-term financial boost, but it won’t take you nearer to becoming wealthy. Start your own business, open an online shop, or get creative with your ideas.

I’ll be honest and say this was a tough habit to change. I became widowed in 2020, and managing my income has been hard work. I’ve always had enough money, but not beyond that. I write affirmations and am teaching myself to become aware when I get caught up in scarcity thinking.

Skimping On Growth

You never stop learning about money and mindset growth, because we’re constantly changing and adapting to our external environment. The more you expand your mind, the greater the chances of success. You don’t need to buy expensive courses costing thousands of dollars. Invest in yourself by reading books, watching video tutorials, learning from a mentor, or taking free or low-cost classes.

I got started with a Done-for-you business I have learned so much about how to do attraction marketing and build a business.

Trying To Do It All Yourself

I learned the hard way about the challenges of trying to make it alone. I’m a lone wolf and can find it challenging to work with others, but I need support, as we all do. You will get so far alone, and then you may lose motivation. Suddenly, you have lost the will to carry on with the same passion you had when you began.

Exchanging Time For Money

Exchanging time for money will never make you rich. I busted a gut from 2021 to 2023, writing for clients. I made an OK income, but I had no more energy or time to do more writing. Exchanging time for money caused significant burnout.

Aim to work as few hours as possible for the most money. Create wealth by building something that you can automate and will bring money to you even when you are not working. I promote the DFU Business, do affililate & Pinterest marketing and am working on creating products for myself.

The Garden Hose Theory

Do you jump from one task to another? I do. I have ADHD. I’m easily distracted or hyper-focused.

Most of us follow the garden hose approach to making money. We water as many plants as possible, hoping some grow big and strong. When accumulating wealth, it’s easy to confuse diversification with spraying in too many directions.

Start one thing and make it work. When that income source is ticking along, move to the next thing, but take your time. It’s essential not to put all your eggs in one basket, of course, but lacking focus on one thing at a time will delay your wealth building.

I hope that helps.

The Law of Allowing: Why is it so Hard?

April 18, 2024

the law of allowing

The Law of Allowing  Can Work for You. Stop Resisting & Notice the Changes

The law of allowing is likely one of the biggest stumbling blocks you knowingly or unknowingly encounter during your journey to manifest the life of your dreams.

Why is that?

Well, for one thing, you’re human; for another, we try to manipulate what is, gain control, influence the outcome, chase goals, and generally fight against anything that isn’t on our perceived map of reality.

Is It Genuinely Possible To Be OK With Whatever Does And Doesn’t Happen?

When my fiancé died in a cycling accident in 2020, my brain turned to fish food. I couldn’t grasp how David could be alive one minute and gone from my life forever in the space of an hour. Shock has a nasty effect on you physically and mentally, and I had so many things to contemplate about the impact on my life.

I clung to spiritual practices for five months before I moved to a smaller rental. Because the loss crushed my mental resources, I relied on the law of attraction to put me in the right place in front of the right people. I couldn’t help myself, so I prayed for guiding hands.

Alongside coping with the grief of losing my best friend and the love of my life, there was a question of financial survival. I had no money, no job, and no savings. After I moved, my emotional protection collapsed. I quickly found work and created an income, but felt hollow inside.

I questioned the Universe, God, or whoever oversees us. Why take one of the kindest men on the planet? I was baffled why my entire life was around loss? Why wasn’t I allowed to be happy and why did my happiness always have to end abruptly?

Three months later, I had to have David’s elderly dog put to sleep and shortly after, my favourite dog suddenly became ill and had to be put to sleep from an internal bleed caused by a tumour on her liver that we had no idea about.

I howled like a wounded animal driving back from the vet. How could life be so cruel? The dog that kept me laughing when I wanted to die was gone.

The final straw was breaking my hip in a freak martial arts accident in December 2021. Seriously, come on, Universe. I can’t take much more adversity.

So, you get the picture. Life was utter shit.

Waking Up

It took a long time, but in 2023, I began waking up. The Universe was, once again, laughing at my expense. I got laid off from two clients and suddenly found myself without an income again. But a weird thing happened.

I accepted. Stopped caring. I stopped fighting, and surrendered to the higher power.

It sounds easy, but it wasn’t. Like most of us, the urge to interfere is hard wired in me. How could I possibly allow whatever was to come without worrying about running out of money and becoming homeless?

My friends were baffled. “But you’re so calm, Jan,” they said, and I shrugged without explaining why I’d let go of control. I slipped into the stream of existence and told it to do as it wished. No longer fwould I fight or question adversity and would trust in the greater plan. I believed it would carry me into the stream of abundance, and it eventually did.

Weirdly, it’s working out.

How the Heck Do you Allow Everything to be OK?

Yeah, and I mean everything. You can’t pick and choose what you will and won’t allow. You take it on the chin for anything that does or doesn’t come your way. Here are a few examples:

  • You look in the mirror and accept you are overweight and cannot fit into your clothes. Still, you feel happy you are alive and well.
  • When a driver cuts you up on the road, you wish him well and acknowledge that you are safe.
  • You don’t allow yourself to become unbalanced by adverse world events.
  • You don’t try to change your loved ones to fit in with the version of themselves you’d prefer.
  • You don’t try to influence the opinions of others even when you vehemently disagree.
  • You see beauty and joy in the smallest things in life and nature.
  • You accept physical pain, such as arthritis.
  • If a relationship ends, you accept it has reached its peak and is no longer for you and the other person.
  • You lose your job, and don’t get angry with your employer.
  • A colleague goes behind your back. You accept he is a flawed being, as we all are.
  • Your friend is making poor financial decisions. You offer support without judgment rather than “advising” her or commenting on her choices.

In short, you allow people, life and situations to play out around you without feeling the need to change what is happening or feeling insecure because it isn’t working out.

Try This Technique for Allowing

I just made this up, but it works.

Imagine there’s a door to a magical room. But toys are cluttering up the doorway.

You cannot get into the room, nor can anyone else. It’s Christmas, and you want to buy new toys, but you have nowhere to put them unless you clear away all the toys in front of the door.

The magical room is enormous and can hold many things you desire. Still, you like the toys and don’t want to move them, but you still want the new ones.

See the problem?

Oh, heck, maybe it isn’t such a good analogy, but I hope you get my drift. You cannot manifest something if the space isn’t there for it.

Making Choices

The law of allowing frees you from the desire to control. You still have choices, of course. Primarily, you can hoose how to react to external events. Choose love and seek emotional balance.

Allowing is challenging. It’s tough, and you will repeatedly fall back into controlling or resistance patterns. However, as long as you stay bound to these patterns, your manifestations will fall flat.

The law of allowing means there MUST be a space for the manifestation, and we MUST accept that it may come to us via a bit of a dog’s leg map.

If you feel you want to interfere, tell yourself, “It is none of my business. I trust the divine plan and accept this situation.”

Allow others to make their own mistakes. Be a friend, partner or colleague by being the person who doesn’t judge or feel compelled to share an (unasked-for) opinion.

Conclusion

I don’t know why David died. Perhaps I wouldn’t be the person I am now if it hadn’t happened. I’ve risen to challenges, overcome impossible odds and navigated life alone. I am supporting myself emotionally and financially, and, In June 2024, I embarked on a new chapter with an exciting business opportunity.

Had I been fearful, I would have found another “job” quickly and pushed myself back into misery. Life would have tossed me around until I landed where I was supposed to be. While training for the new business, I discovered I was profoundly missing creativity and authenticity. I have that now.

I still miss David and would give up a lot to have him back, but I accept that he departed from this life and gave me the room to develop spiritually and grow into a better person.

His death taught me that I can love deeply. I wasn’t fully aware of how much I loved David until he was no longer there. And let’s be honest, the Western world does not equip us to manage grief. We don’t talk about it, and it comes as a weird surprise when our parents and other loved ones die.

The law of allowing, though challenging, will have the biggest impact on your ability to manifest. When the ***t hits the fan, instead of reacting, detach with curiosity and say, “Well, that’s interesting.”

Good luck. Take your time; don’t beat yourself up when you slip back. The law of allowing takes self-awareness, commitment and dedication to practice. In time, it gets easier. I promise.

How to Master Your Money Mindset 2025

How to Master Your Money Mindset That Helps You Attain Wealth & Keep It

If you can master your money mindset, there is nothing stopping you from achieving the life of your dreams.

Have you got a subconscious financial ceiling? If so, are you aware of how it could hold you back from financial freedom? It can even cause self-sabotage when your income increases.

In November 2023, after a tricky year with client work, I finally understood what I wanted from my working life.

Mostly, I figured out what I didn’t want.

The Solution

I recently watched YouTube videos by Dr Benjamin Hardy regarding his book “10X is Easier than 2X.” The principle is that it’s easier to achieve massive goals than it is to master small incremental goals.

Hmmm, OK, let’s see how that works then.

I wrote down a huge financial goal for 6-12 months time. It was approximately ten times my average monthly income. Immediately, I felt uncomfortable. I started trying to work out how to protect that money, how much tax I would pay and other such logistics.

Seriously, I went into a total tailspin.

I began adding this financial goal to my journaling on my morning and evening affirmations. At first, the discomfort increased. My logical mind thought it was ridiculous, “How are you going to “earn” that sort of money when you can’t even find consistent work?” Yep, my logical mind is sceptical, and I was surprised by its negative attitude!

Then, a surprising thing happened.

My mind began cooperating.

You Can Increase Your Income Ceiling

Suddenly, the gigantic figure began to feel achievable, as if it wasn’t a lot of money, and I no longer felt the discomfort. I stopped thinking about “how” I could possibly make that much money (note I said “make” and not “earn“) and continued with my daily affirmations.

Then, in May 2024, an opportunity popped into my eyeline and immediately ticked all the boxes. On closer inspection, the skills I will learn from this DFU business will undoubtedly give me the potential to create financial freedom.

I’ve set up the business, watching the training and experiencing many ah-ha moments. The sense of calm and certainty has prevailed. It feels like there is no rush because I have the “knowing” it will happen now.

I tapped into the digital marketing space because by 2027, experts suggest it will generate $3 billion in sales.

The Money Mindset Exercise

You can either work with a like-minded buddy or alone. The objective is to test at what financial figure you become uncomfortable.

If Working With A Buddy

  • Initially, set a 10X figure for the future, but don’t focus on it yet
  • Have your friend say a figure, such as starting with $3,000 a month.
  • Close your eyes and tune into your body
  • Take your time
  • How are you feeling? OK, or uncomfortable?
  • Repeat: Your friend increases the monthly income figure by $1000 (or your chosen denomination)
  • Notice at what point you start feeling a bit edgy. When you do, that’s the first figure to work on for the next few days or weeks until you get past the discomfort.
  • Work with your friend as often as possible and write affirmations that include the bigger financial figure.
  • The objective is to work up to the 10X figure and be 100% comfortable imagining having that much money.

If Working Alone

I’ve found writing the big financial goal more impactful. Looking at the number seems to trigger more of a response than thinking about it.

  • Using the same method as working with a buddy, write a figure you are comfortable with, such as $3,000 a month.
  • Find the spot where you start feeling uncomfortable.
  • Write in your journal daily, using affirmations for the financial figure.
  • You can go a bit bigger or go the whole hog. For instance, if $5,000 a month makes you uncomfortable, you could write affirmations for $10,000 a month.
  • Alternatively, cut out the middle bits and go straight to the 10X figure, such as $25,000 a month and keep working to that amount.

I’ve provided alternative ways to work because we are all different. I prefer working to $25,000 a month from the get-go. My friend liked working incrementally. Whatever you choose doesn’t matter, so long as you stick with the process.

It took me about a month before I was 100% comfortable with the 10X figure. For you, it could be days, weeks or a few months. It depends on how often you do the exercise. I would recommend daily practice to smash through your financial ceiling fast.

We are often unaware that we have a financial ceiling because we trundle along in our comfort zone. Even if we struggle for money, it’s what we’re used to.

This income ceiling is why lottery winners eventually lose the lot. Their financial ceiling is so fixed that their subconscious continually works to reset the status quo.

I hope that helps. I find this subject fascinating, and I’m excited to see how it works for you in opening the flow to financial abundance.

Step Away From the System

April 17, 2024

step away from the system

Step Away From the System That Traps You Into Believing You Must Live And Act A Certain Way

To achieve manifestation success, we must step away from the stereotypes and norms that society tells us we must adhere to. Walk your own path. Be individual. Be unafraid to do things differently.

Pendulums cannot bear individuality. They rely on their adherents to stay in line, stick to the rules, and follow the common rules.

Most people follow the masses – a great way to get stuck in a societal pendulum.

Most people are afraid.

Don’t be afraid. Or do, but embrace the fear. Think of it as excitement. The brain cannot differentiate the physiological response.

When you first “step out”, all hell might break loose. People you love may get snarky about your individualism. They’re in the pendulum. They want to feel safe – they think they are safe there – and can’t do that if you rock the boat.

Once you make headway, the pendulums have a change of heart. They recognise a star in the making and want a piece of the action. People want to be near you. They want to know how you succeeded and hope they can catch a piece if they are near you.

Claim your privileges. You decide what they are.

Don’t let anyone tell you who you are or that you need to be perfect.

You do not.

You need only to be yourself.

That’s it.

Initiate your own game. Invite others to play. Don’t play their game. It’s not fun. It won’t get you what you want. Or it will, but it will come at a price.

Go for it.

How to Develop the Future Self

April 17, 2024

how to develop the future self

Looking at the NOW from the Perspective of Your Future Self Can be Transformative

Since late 2023, I’ve taken time out to review my future work. I left the crypto industry and realised I hadn’t been happy for a long time. The industry is flawed, a bit broken and has no heart.

I’ve always had an entrepreneurial flair, but I got too comfortable with regular work and stopped pursuing the things that would take me away from relying on client work.

Since then, my energies have been a bit scattered. The uncertainty of an irregular income, coupled with my ADHD tendencies, caused me to shoot in too many directions.

Benjamin Hardy Changed My Life

Then, I watched a YouTube video by Dr. Benjamin Hardy, a psychologist and best-selling author. One of his books, 10X is Easier than 2X, focuses on the concept that it is easier to achieve impossible goals than smaller ones.

My soul must have recognised the truth of the content because the hairs on my body stood to attention. I felt connected to “something” indefinable within me, yet there was a sense of knowing.

Most of the time, we operate based on our past experiences and habits. They have shaped the present “you.” However, if you have a big goal or dream, the past and present you is unlikely to get you to where you want to be. How can anything change if you do what you’ve always done what you always do?

For example, I’ve had regular client work for almost three years. My earnings were healthy, and I was comfortable. However, I’ve relied on my income from people paying me to write content for them. I’m a widow living in a rented cottage, and I must cover my expenses. Therefore, I immediately began looking for more clients when I was “let go” from the crypto companies this year.

My goal is to have financial freedom and a house of my own. But I’ve been saying that for decades, and nothing has changed.

How can that dream happen if I keep writing for clients? If I take on more work, I will suffer from burnout. If I raise my prices, there’s only so high I can go before the market resists. Therefore, the goal must be bigger than that.

Here’s the Kicker

Benjamin Hardy says that our present self must be directed by the future self. In other words, what would she tell you to do today if “future you” achieved the impossible goal?

Would she tell me to find more clients or get on and publish the courses and books I have planned? Would she advise against affiliate marketing and creating passive income?

No. The future “me” is a badass creative who loves her work and is not the person exchanging money for time to make a living. She is free of time for money constraints and helps others to find financial freedom, too.

I believe this information is life-changing when you fully absorb the power of the future self guiding your actions.

How to Own Your Future Self and Become Who You Want to Be

Change is inevitable, but you can shape it to your advantage. You can become the person you want to be by following these three steps:

Separate Your Past, Present, and Future Selves

You are not the same person you were yesterday and will not be the same person tomorrow. You have grown and changed over time, and you have the potential to grow and change even more.

Don’t let your current self define your future self. You have the power to choose who you want to be.

It sounds easy, but it isn’t. We are creatures of habit, so the survival brain resists even when we know change is good for us. Accept that the feelings of discomfort do not indicate danger. Indeed, feeling uncomfortable means you are closer to becoming the badass future YOU.

Imagine Your Desired Future Self

What are your goals and dreams? What kind of person do you want to be? How do you want to live your life? These are the questions to ask yourself to create a clear and specific vision of your desired future self.

Use techniques like visualisation, journaling, and affirmations to make your future self as vivid as possible in your mind.

Some of the questions I’ve asked myself so far, are: –

  • What do I want?
  • What do I not want?
  • What car do I drive?
  • What charities do I help?
  • Who shares my future life?
  • What does my home look like?
  • What does my future daily life look like?
  • How can I better connect with my future self?
  • What actions today will take me closer to my goal?
  • Who do I need to be today to reach my impossible goal?
  • What connections must I build to support my future self?
  • What does my future self look like? What is she wearing?
  • How can I let go of the past so it doesn’t shape my future?

I journal each night before turning off the light. It’s an excellent way to condition the subconscious mind during sleeping hours. Each morning, I awake feeling more hopeful and clear about what to do next.

Create and Share Your Identity and New Story

Your identity is the story you tell yourself and others about who you are and who you are becoming. It influences your thoughts, feelings, and actions. To become your desired future self, create a positive and compelling story that explains how you got to the goal. What steps did you take? Were there any roadblocks, and how did you overcome them?

Share your story with people who support you and hold you accountable. Consider starting a mastermind group of like-minded souls.

This new identity story will drive your behaviour, shaping your personality as you move towards the impossible goal.

You can start living like your future self today. You can own your future self and create the change you want to see in yourself and the world.

I believe you have the power to become who you want to be.
